Unveiling an Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have discovered plenty of entertaining indie games. But, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a protagonist that is actually a dung trying to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: just use a one button to leap. Throughout numerous stages, you'll face tough enemies and access a market to purchase skins for your poop character.

Plan your jumps with caution, as a mistake requires restarting the level. Leap using air pockets to hurl your character to new heights, cross crumbling ledges, and activate triggers to open new areas. Earn coins to purchase challenging game content as the action ramps up.

In terms of design, the demo boasts neon level designs and catchy background music. The retro visual style with shifting abstract forms could recall players of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to recall other games where you are a piece of feces, gaming have long featured fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create throwables from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as plant food. Naturally, fecal references shows up extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already received notable accolades, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to launch on PC in the fall.
